One month down!!!

Hi All,

I can't believe that one month of school is already finished! Wow!

We were working hard on our science projects today during computer time. Ms. Letwin even walked into our computer time and was so impressed by what our students were doing. I can't wait to see the presentations!!! Such talent!

Tomorrow we have our first word wall test. The words are:

because
friends
have
laugh
off
people
said
they
until
want

composer
discovery
encouragement
hopeless
impossible
musician
richest
unfriendly

I guess that I could have posted these earlier...completely forgot about it! Thanks for the suggestion.

Also tomorrow please all grade 4 students return in your money and permission letter for the "waste management facility" field trip.

I sent home scholastic book orders for the month of September. We are still waiting for one book that is on pre-order "Diary of a Wimpy Kid #5"- arriving in November.

I hope that everyone is having a great half day!

Friday!!!

Hello!

Today we had a great day! We were busy with reading buddies, writing personal narratives on a childhood memory, pattern work in math and ZENTANGLES in Art today!!!

You must ask your children what they wrote their personal narrative about and what exactly a ZENTANGLE is :)

The homework for the weekend: Independent reading log completed and signed by parent for Monday morning. Also, their personal narratives. Some students have completed their narratives but I still encouraged them to take it home and look over it (maybe you parents even want to look at).

Next week: The students will begin project work in Science and Social. Also there will be a word wall test on Friday, for the September words.

The grade 4's are also swimming again on Tuesday!

Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather (who knows how long it will stick around)

Wed Sept 22nd

Hi All,

Wow! What a busy week already. I ended up being home sick yesterday...feeling better now! The grade 4's had a successful trip to the pool which was very nice to see. The grade 5's had a short presentation on immunizations this morning. The Hep B immunization form will be sent home today in the agenda, please parents fill it out and return by this Friday!

Parents, some students are coming to school with unfinished homework. I am stressing at school that each student must remember their homework each night to bring home and back to school. Please re-inforce this at home. It really is disappointing if one of the students has to miss out on some learning because their homework is incomplete. :)

I hope that most of the students are checking out the online reading program at home. You can find the login information in the back of the students agenda.

Thanks to all of the grade 5's that are so excited for the volleyball try-outs!

Have a great evening!

Thursday Sept 16th

I wanted to say thank you very much to all of the parents that made it out to Meet the Staff night. It was really nice to meet you! I am so thankful that I have supportive parents in my classroom.

I am in need of another Class representative for the 4/5 class. This person will help be the voice of our class at the monthly SAC meetings. Please let me know if you are interested.

Swimming money is due at school tomorrow for the Grade 4's. We leave on Tuesday morning, so the permission forms must be in.

Volleyball has started up again this year. I am going to be coaching again this year. The volleyball try-outs are open to grade 5's & 6's starting Monday right after school 3:10-4:15! I see that many of my grade 5's are eager to tryout! Very exciting...

Happy Thursday.

WEEK 2 finished!

Hi All,

I hope that you are all enjoying the beautiful weekend!

On Friday at school we started are guided reading "book club" that we will be working on for the next few months. The theme is "bully-free zone". The students were really excited about it and we started an excellent discussion on bullying and what it means to them. I look forward to the students sharing their experiences and knowledge throughout the unit.

We also began discussion on our first Science units. The grade fours will be studying "Waste and our World" and the grades will be studying "Weather"....both are sure to be really interesting. I think that some students have already been researching theses topics at home :)

This upcoming week is our first full week, I hope all the students get plenty of sleep :)

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Wednesday Sept 8th

How are you all enjoying the wonderful weather today....jk! I hope that you are all staying out of the rain and cold :)

Today we started to organize some of our duo-tangs for various subject areas and changed the seating plan around the room. The grade four's are now all sitting together and same with the grade five's. Even though we are separated by grade, we are still a "combined class" that has a great sense of community. I am very surprised and thrilled at how well the students in our class are working together. It truly is a wonderful learning environment.

Tomorrow we have early dismissal at 12:00 pm!

Have a good evening.

Tuesday Sept 7th

Hello!

I wanted to update the parents about the home reading program that I sent home today. The students have been ask to read a minimum of 30 minutes per day. They are then asked to complete their independent reading log. I ask that you (parents) look at the log at the end of the week (Sunday) and sign to ensure that your son/daughter has completed their reading for the week. I will review their reading logs on Monday's.

If you have any questions let me know! This is not intended to be a tedious task for the little guys, I just want to make sure that they are reading daily :)

Here is a copy of the letter regarding the reading program:

Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am beginning a home reading program with the students in 4/5. I am sending home with your child an independent reading log. I ask that your child reads at home for a minimum of 30 minutes per evening. The students have been asked to fill out the log according to what they read. They are asked to fill in the date, title, starting/ending page and a short response. The students can choose any book they want to read because this is their own independent reading time.
I hope that this will be a good experience for your child. Please feel free to become involved in the books your child is reading. I encourage you to ask your child questions about the literature he/she is reading.
On the reading log form there is a place for a parent signature. Please sign your child’s log once a week as they will be handing this in every Monday morning. The reading log starts today :)
Thank you for your cooperation!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Denman

Happy Friday!!!

Hi All,

Well today was another exciting day at Bishop Greschuk. We started our morning with reading buddies, which was a really nice experience for both grades. The grade 1/2's and 4/5's are sure to learn many things from each other! We also crafted our 4/5 Classroom Creed, which all of the students signed. You can view our creed on meet the teacher night :)

This afternoon we had a surprise fire drill to wake us all up! The class responded to the fire drill with great success. I have such a wonderful group of kids.

I sent home forms today for the grade 4's - two which need to signed and returned to the school ASAP. Everyone (4's and 5's) in the class received a volunteer form which can be returned back to the school if your are interested.

I hope that everyone enjoys their long weekend. Enjoy the beautiful weather and the company of your friends and family. See you on Tuesday!!!

Day 2 finished!!!

Wow! I can't believe that two days of school are finished already...time is flying by!

Today in our classroom we discussed weekly meetings and how they will work. Please ask your son/daughter about this.

It's really starting to get busy at Bishop Greschuk. The students had a meeting today for patrols and running club, many of them are interested which is great to see :)

Tomorrow we begin reading buddies with our partner class (Mrs. Coco's 1/2 combined class). The students are really looking forward to this.

It has been a great couple of days. I am very impressed with my students attitudes, behavior and intellect. I am very lucky to have such talented children in my class.

Thank you to all of those who have begun following the blog....the students were very excited about this blog!

Until next time...
